Department of Gender and Development Studies

In Gender Studies, the term “gender is used to refer to the social and cultural constructions of masculinities and femininities. Courses offered in this Department look at how these constructs are changing in the context of promoting development, reducing poverty, eliminating violence against women, and achieving gender equality in issues of human rights. The courses are appropriate for those working in development, including front-line grassroots implementers and practitioners, project coordinators, mid-level managers, and senior decision-makers in the government and NGO sectors. They are high interactive, offering participants hands-on training relevant to development projects, such as understanding the project cycle and gender mainstreaming initiatives.

This life, which had been the tomb of his virtue and of his honour, is but a walking shadow; a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
